Assessment Materials

Class teachers generally have a very clear understanding of each child’s grasp of the phonic knowledge and skills they have taught.  This is gleaned from their interactions with children throughout tightly focused and carefully structured phonics lessons and as reading and writing skills are applied across the curriculum.  Although formative assessment is key, summative assessments play a crucial role in tracking progress and attainment as children move through the phases of the Letters and Sounds programme informing next steps in teaching and ensuring children at risk of falling behind are identified without delay.  Schools should ensure they have a robust system for assessment in place which is quick to administer and easy to analyse in order to provide a meaningful picture of attainment across the programme.

I have developed two assessment resources which are both specifically matched to the Letters and Sounds programme.  The first is a complete assessment package providing everything you need for assessing and analysing progress and attainment in Phonics.  The second is an easy-to-use, light-touch assessment tool ideal for identifying children who would benefit from targeted intervention prior to the Phonics Screening Check in Y1 or Y2.

Please get in touch for further information about these materials.
